Our Peruvian connection
Check out poet Paolo de Lima's blog, with links to Monday Night poet Victoria Guerreo's reading of "Una Carta". Toshiya Kamei offers a superb English translation of this piece ("A Letter") in Monday Night Six.

Okay, okay, so we've been promising you a fabulous new Monday Night website forever. . .and it is coming; we're just not sure when. Stay tuned! Also this current site is undergoing some weird formatting issues until we get the spiffy new furniture in. Apologies for our mess.

U.K.-based writer, Kara Keller Bell, offers a great review of Monday Night 3 for the Small Press Roundup, the review component of Laura Hird's very popular website devoted to new writing. Bell gives big kudos to our Issue 3 contributors and to the continued success of Monday Night.

Monday Night in the news
Read the excellent Contra Costa Times article about East Bay magazines that features prime coverage for Monday Night! This piece was written by Calvin Liu of the Bullfight Review and does an great job promoting not only our wee publication, but several other excellent East Bay literary journals.

Mike Young, (MN Issue Six), whose short piece "The Peaches Are Cheap" was first printed in Monday Night Issue Six and reprinted on Hobart.
Congrats on the double bonus!

 

David Gaffney, (MN Issue Five), was interviewed on the BBC Radio Three show "The Verb" in June of 2006. The program also featured Gaffney reading from his book, Sawn-Off Tales. A few of these extremely short, witty stories are included in Issue 5! Sawn-Off Tales is set for release later in 2006. Check it out!.

 

Keija Parssinen's, (MN Issue Five), poem entitled "Repentence for a Feminist Reading of On the Road" received first prize in the Country Mouse's summer poetry contest. More of Parssinen's poems are forthcoming in Country Mouse as well as Her Circle Ezine. Congrats, Keija!

 

Marc Phillips (MN Issue Four), was the overall winner of the 11th Fish International Short Story Prize with his story "The Mountains of Mars." His prize is 10,000 Euros and his work will be the title story of the 2005 Fish Anthology. The book was launched at the West Cork Literary Festival in Bantry, Co. Cork on June 29, 2005, where Marc was on hand to read his winning story. He appreciates any comments or questions about his work.

 
 
Denise Dee (MN Issue Three) was selected as the featured photographer for 2005 by Outsider Ink. Denise also recently published a poem "Carcasses" in The City, an online journal of poetry and a short story "Brittle Bones" in Awakenings Review. In addition, Dee wrote the lyrics for four songs on The Bad Cassette's album Cellophane Country. Read all about it.  
 

Christine Hamm, (MN Issue Three), received a stellar review by Small Spiral Notebook for her self-published chapbook, Things You Can Do with a Sharpened Pencil. Check it out.

 
 
Ishle Yi Park, who had two poems included in Monday Night Two, is the Poet Laureate of Queens, NY. She's currently a touring cast member of the Tony-Award winning Def Poetry Jam. Her poems have been featured in Best American Poetry 2003, Ploughshares and many other publications. Check out the latest from this tremendous talent at her website, www.ishle.com.
